When you are finding the right preschools for your kids there are certain things that you should keep an eye for. We all want what’s best for our children and it’s starts when they are very young. You can’t underestimate the benefits of academic preschool. It will set your kids up for elementary, middle and high school. Here are just a few of the things to look for in a preschool.

Preschool Education Activities
Preschool is not just about socialization. While that is a big part of it, it’s important for your kids to start learning as young as possible. Young children brain’s are like sponges and they take in everything. This is why it’s a good idea to start them in their learning path sooner rather than later. Preschool education activities could be as simple as one on one time where they count, learn ABCs, read simple words and so on. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, it just needs to be there. If your child is coming home without new knowledge or skills, it may be time to find another preschool. This is not talking about creating genius children; just simple learning skills that will help them when they go into regular school.

Balance of Playtime
Having said that, while preschool education activities are incredibly important, there does need to be a balance of that along with time to just play and be kids with other kids. The socialization aspect of preschool will also be something that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. Learning to compromise, negotiate, share and communicate with other kids is a huge part of growing up. If a child cannot do that when he or she is young, they may continue to have problems with that as they get older. Preschool is a great place to also find out if a child has any learning disabilities. As the teachers watch them, they can see how they interact with other children and may see things that are not noticeable at home.

Consistency of Schedules
Kids thrive on boundaries. Some parents may disagree with this but there are many studies that show that kids are much happier and progress much more if they have rules and schedules to abide by. Knowing when they are going to learn, eat, sleep and play will give them a sense of security and safety while they are at preschool. While there should be room for flexibility and change, each preschool should at least have a loose schedule that they follow in order to help the children. This makes it much easier for the workers as well. It’s hard to control an entire class of young children if everyone is just doing whatever they want. If you can establish certain times and keep everyone on the same schedule, it makes it a lot easier for everyone.

Communication and Openness
Aside from preschool education activities and playing, napping, snack time, etc, the most important thing about where you send your child is how communicative and honest the teachers and the management are. You should feel comfortable asking anything you want about your child’s day and what he will do and learn throughout his time there. Some of the best schools actually have windows all the way around the inner room so that the parents can stop by at any time and see what their children are up to.

Many people feel that preschool is optional and as the parent it is completely up to your discretion. Preschool is not required by law but there are many studies that show that children do much better when they get into regular school when they have already been through preschool. It gives them a chance to acclimate to the environment. If they go from home to kindergarten then they may have trouble socializing which will make it difficult to focus on the work or vice versa. There always needs to be a balance for both. Kids that have gone through preschool are known to be a little more advanced in both areas than kids who have not. But, at the end of the day, you know what is best for your child and should make your decisions based on that.
