Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Explained

You may have heard of the acronym “DEI” before. What does it mean? The YouTube channel, Diverse City LLC, educates viewers about what each letter entails, and how businesses across the globe can benefit from practicing proper DEI.

D is for diversity. It represents a mixture of human beings with different identities, all co-existing in a certain space such as an office building. Such identities include, but are not limited to, religion, sex, gender, disability, or age.

A diverse company does not discriminate based on how a person identifies.

E is for equity. Essentially, it means being fair to people, no matter their invisible or visible identities. In the working world, a business with high equity will also have fair policies for all its workers.

I is for inclusion. A good inclusive workplace creates an environment that emphasizes belonging, welcomeness, and provides meaningful work for any employee that walks through their doors.

All in all, you cannot have one without the other two. Businesses in the modern world need to keep the DEI acronym in mind when building up a strong workforce. Keeping up a good business also means following up with a polished DEI report.
