What Are All the Costs of Surrogacy?

Surrogacy allows couples who otherwise have been struggling to sustain a successful pregnancy to have a child. For better or worse, however, costs of surrogacy are rather high. We’ll cover some crucial financial considerations, but if you need specifics, it’s wise to reach out to a surrogacy program to learn more.

There are two types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational. With traditional surrogacy, donated sperm is used to impregnate the egg of a surrogate mother.

When gestational surrogacy is used, a fertilized embryo is planted in the surrogate mother. This means the surrogate mother is not related to the child. Traditional surrogacy is generally the cheapest of the two options.

Gestational surrogacy is the most popular option and in the United States, it typically costs around $150,000. Prices can vary by region, and utilizing surrogacy in say Kansas is often cheaper than surrogacy in California. Either way, the United States is one of the most expensive countries in the world for surrogacy.

The surrogate mother in the United States will usually receive a fee of around $35,000 plus a $15,000 stipend to cover things like living costs. As you can see, surrogacy is rather expensive. Given how intensive pregnancies are, this should come as no surprise.

There are options for more affordable surrogacy services in other countries. Ukraine has emerged as a leading alternative. Owing to lower living costs in Ukraine and other factors, you may be able to utilize surrogacy for $55,000.
