What to Look For in a Preschool
Every parent wants to send their young ones to the best preschool they can find. That much is a given. After all, building a foundation early allows children to learn more quickly and more easily when they get to middle school and may even possibly help them get into top private schools.
Finding the best preschool, though, can be rather tricky. Luckily, there are some things you can do to make it easier. Here are just a few tips to help when research preschools.
Quality Teaching. – Obviously, the best preschool is going to have high-quality teachers, but you visit a preschool and the kids just look like they’re playing, don’t write it off just yet. Even playing is learning. Good teaching is purposeful, so the teacher should be able to explain what the childrens’ activities are teaching them. For example, a group of kids building a block tower are learning about spatial reasoning, basic physics, and even teamwork.
The Safety. – The best preschool is also going to be as safe as possible. Take a look at the shleves, tables, chairs, and bathroom. Make sure that it’s a safe space, even if the child isn’t being watched 100% of the time. It should be clean, and feature such safety precautions as covered electrical sockets, toys without sharp edges, and safe storage spaces.
Teacher Interaction. – Kids need social interaction not just with their peers, but with adults, too. Make sure the teachers regularly crouch or kneel down next to the students to see what they’re up to, making eye-to-eye contact. This shows that the teacher is approachable and supportive. It also encourages the student to talk with the teacher longer, thusly further developing their language abilities and becoming more comfortable talking with people.
You can’t underestimate the importance of early childhood education, as it will help them develop the foundations to do well in school for the rest of their academic careers. If you have any questions about finding the best preschool around, feel free to share in the comments.
